Who We Are

A Practice Built Around You

Thrive Psychological Wellness is a private outpatient psychiatric practice founded by Caroline Thiongo, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in healthcare. Caroline has worked across outpatient clinics, community mental health centres, residential treatment programmes, and integrated healthcare settings. That range of experience matters because it means she understands psychiatric care from multiple angles, not just one point of entry.

What she kept seeing across those settings was the same problem. People who needed help were waiting too long to get it. When they finally reached a provider, care felt rushed, disconnected, or built around a system rather than around the person sitting in the chair. Thrive was built as a direct response to that.

We provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and ongoing care for adults and adolescents across Oregon. In-person appointments are available at our Portland and Multnomah Village offices. Telehealth is available to patients anywhere in Oregon. Scheduling works around your work, school, and family commitments, not the other way around.
Our Story

Why Caroline Founded Thrive Psychological Wellness

After more than two decades working in healthcare, Caroline Thiongo had seen the same pattern repeat itself too many times. Patients struggling to get an appointment. Weeks or months on a waiting list. Then a rushed visit with a provider who did not have enough time to really listen. Or no appointment at all, because the system simply did not have the capacity.

Long wait times, limited availability, and care that felt disconnected from the person receiving it were not abstract problems. They were real barriers stopping real people from getting help they genuinely needed. Caroline founded Thrive to change that for the patients she works with directly.

The practice is built around one straightforward idea: every patient deserves to be heard and actively involved in their own care. Not just assessed and sent away with a prescription. Heard. Involved. Treated as a partner in the process rather than a recipient of it. That collaborative approach, combined with accessible scheduling and shorter wait times, is what Thrive was built for.

I saw many individuals struggle to access timely psychiatric care. Long wait times and fragmented services often prevented patients from receiving the help they needed. I started this practice to create a welcoming environment where patients receive comprehensive care focused on their unique needs and goals.

Mission and Values

Our Mission

To provide accessible, compassionate, and personalized mental health care that empowers individuals to achieve emotional wellness and thrive in all areas of life.

Our Vision

To create a community where every individual has access to quality mental health care and the opportunity to live with purpose, resilience, and hope.

Compassion

We treat every patient with genuine care and empathy, recognising the courage it takes to seek help.

Integrity

We are honest, transparent, and consistent in how we practice and communicate with every patient.

Respect

Every person who walks through our door or connects with us by telehealth deserves dignity and respect.

Collaboration

We believe the best care happens when patients are active partners in their own treatment, not passive recipients.

Excellence

We hold ourselves to high clinical standards and stay current with evidence-based practice.

Accessibility

We remove barriers to care through telehealth, flexible scheduling, and reduced wait times

Cultural Humility

We approach every patient with an open mind and genuine respect for their background, identity, and lived experience.

Patient-Centered Care

Your goals shape the plan. We do not impose a one-size-fits-all approach. We build care around you.

Empowerment and Growth

We want patients to leave each appointment feeling more capable and more hopeful than when they arrived.

What Makes Us Different

How Thrive Psychological Wellness Is Different

There are a lot of ways to access mental health care. Here is what makes Thrive different from the rest.

You Are Involved in Every Decisio

Collaborative decision-making is not a phrase we use to sound good. It is how we actually practice. Your goals, your concerns, and your preferences shape the treatment plan from the first appointment forward. You are not a passive recipient of care here.

Reduced Wait Times

One of the most common complaints in psychiatric care is the wait. We have built the practice to minimize that. Limited same-day and urgent appointments may be available. Most patients are seen far sooner than the weeks or months they have been told to expect elsewhere.

Telehealth That Actually Works

Secure telepsychiatry appointments are available throughout Oregon. Whether you are in Portland, Bend, Medford, a rural community, or anywhere in between, you can access the same quality of care from home. No commute. No waiting room. Evening and weekend slots available.

20 Years of Real Clinical Experience

Caroline Thiongo brings over 20 years of healthcare experience across outpatient, community mental health, residential, and integrated care settings. That breadth of experience means she has seen a wide range of clinical presentations and knows what good care looks like across different contexts.

Our Cultural Approach

Why Cultural Identity Is Central to Our Care, Not Optional

Mental health is not experienced the same way across all cultures, and it should not be treated as if it is. At Thrive Psychological Wellness, care is built around the understanding that cultural identity, family structure, spiritual values, and community belonging are genuine factors in a person’s mental health and genuine factors in their recovery.

We take time to understand each patient’s background, values, and the specific ways their culture shapes how they experience and talk about mental health. That means care that fits the whole person, not just the diagnosis on a chart.

Our cultural enrichment programme runs twice weekly and covers topics ranging from history and spirituality to community participation and cultural arts. Patients engage with the traditions of their own communities and build a stronger sense of identity alongside their clinical care.
